This revision includes the typographic addition by Abby Luke. She created an original font specific to the shape of the sunflower and the overall look we were going for. But both of us felt the design needed something more. She called for leaves, so I supplied them, as shown below:
The sketch directly above shows the general concept I pictured. The above leaf drawing a final drawing- something Abby then digitized. You can see its digitization below. We made the veins white in order to draw the eye to the words.
As you can see, this kind of work involves a lot of back and forth. This third revision has a lot of engaging aspects. I love the multiple shades of green and I think the addition of the leaves really adds excitement to the design. However, the colors and many veins of the leaves clearly draw the eye away from the words, as well as the beautiful details of the sunflower. Additionally, I think the leaves are too long and skinny- instead of pulling the eye in towards the words, they pull away with their length. Abby took care of this and the results will be seen in my next Sunflower Post, the Final Revision!
