I am thrilled to announce that I am running the 2014 Boston Marathon in support of the Natick Community Organic Farm.
I’ve been involved at the farm since I could walk. It’s a non-profit farm providing productive space, farm products and hands-on education t
o our Greater Boston community. If you’d like to help me raise the required $4k, please do so here:http://www.razoo.com/story/Steffi-Luke-Fundraising-For-Team-Farm
For me, running is an expression of freedom from fear: of illness, of death, of attacks on our city. Running is a symbol of the spirit overcoming the trappings of the body. When I run, I help set myself and others free. I’ve dreamed of running the Boston Marathon since I was little, cheering every year between Main and Spring Street in Natick. I saw the elite women run past like warriors, legs pumping effortlessly, and always thought, “I want to do that.” This opportunity truly fulfills a life-long goal.
I also see running as an act of healing. Running the 2014 marathon with a number demonstrates that I am a part of a community capable of strength, love, and rebuilding. I’ve used running to pull myself out of depression, to educate and empower my peers by organizing a successful running club. With raising money for NCOF, I will continue my quest to improve the health of my community. I have volunteered at the Natick Community Organic Farm since childhood and currently work the farmer’s markets and seasonal festivals. The importance of sustainable and local food systems cannot be emphasized and acted upon enough.
Thank you for your support!
