Hill run, Boston, 15 degrees F
My sister here let me borrow her giant hill- which features one of the steepest streets in Boston, challenging inclines and a sloping hill that measures a bit less than half a mile. We layered, laughing at each others’ high school clothes- mine a questionable sweatshirt that I resurrected by sewing a 90’s Earth Day t-shirt design onto- hers a Natick High track sweater that boasts completely unusable pockets. You can tell we’re sisters because of our leg warmers. I compiled a quick Beyoncé playlist on my ipod, turned up the volume, and tucked the ipod into my bra- my boobs were converted into a speaker blaring “Flawless”. No regrets.
I like hill workouts because they’re composed of high intensity intervals that are quickly relieved by relaxed downhills. On our second hill, we spotted my sister’s boyfriend stepping out of a shuttle van in front of his apartment. “LOOKIN GOOD” “OW OW” – some good natured cat calling ensued and then we waved hello. Later we found out he didn’t recognize us.
